state rock

serpentinite
time-cracked
spilling out of hillsides

having been accustomed
to supporting water
by the oceanweight

Talk about rock spilling like liquid. Did you read Andrew's Nov. 21 post on the Oakland Geology Blog? Your poem reminds me of his thrust and fold photos. Amazing!!

I read it! There's a lot of serpentinite in the Dunsmuir area in beautiful green. I had a particular spot in mind, near the river. Plus, serpentinite is old ocean floor. (I just love rocks)

Isn't that interesting! I didn't know that serpentinite was old ocean floor. I love rocks too and geology. I should study and learn more.

near Dunsmuir was a little community college that gave geology tours for little cost. I indulged. :-)
Wildly interesting rocks in the area. And yes, you're right, I do miss it.
